Taking its name from the world's most expensive work of art, the purported lost masterpiece by Leonardo da Vinci, the Salvator Mundi Museum of Art is dedicated to exploring all aspects, implications and ramifications from the Salvator Mundi story and art history.
On November 15, 2017, history was made when a painting titled Salvator Mundi, attributed to the great renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci, completely shattered all records by selling at Christie's auction house in NYC for just over 450 million dollars. The painting, dated from around 1500 and lost for many years, was thought to be rediscovered in 2005 underneath multiple layers of overpainting, torn and decayed by worm holes. Over the next 6 years it was meticulously reworked and restored led by conservation expert Diane Dwyer Modestini at New York University.
This museum houses one of the largest private collections of art and ephemera surrounding the Salvator Mundi story and regularly mounts exhibitions on a multitude of related areas of study.
The Museum is approximately 45 sqft. in total and is viewable through the exhibition space glass area. Private tours are available on request.
The Salvator Mundi Museum of Art is a part of the contemporary art project Real Salvator Mundi established in 2017 by artist Elliott Arkin
The Salvator Mundi will forever be the subject of much interest, intrigue, mystery, and debate. However, there is only one Real Salvator Mundi (TM).

Salvator Mundi Museum of Art Presents
The Art of Rescue
An exhibition uniting the restoration of great artworks with the reclamation of rescued animals.
Brooklyn, NY — The Salvator Mundi Museum of Art is proud to announce The Art of Rescue, a groundbreaking exhibition opening this fall in collaboration and highlighting the Badass Animal Rescue of Brooklyn, NY. The show draws a moving parallel between the rediscovery of lost masterpieces and the second chances given to shelter dogs in need of homes.
The exhibition’s premise is simple yet profound: rescue is not only essential to art—it’s essential to life. Just as treasures like a Caravaggio, a Song Dynasty bowl, or a Fabergé egg once thought lost have been rediscovered and restored, so too can overlooked dogs reveal themselves as treasures when given a chance.
The Art of Rescue pairs stories of great art recoveries—including Caravaggio’s The Taking of Christ, Renoir’s flea market discovery, the $3 Song Dynasty bowl, and the $30 million Fabergé egg—with portraits of adoptable dogs from Badass Animal Rescue. Each artwork is matched with a canine counterpart, drawing witty, poignant comparisons between overlooked works of art and overlooked companions.
“This exhibition reminds us that rescue is about more than recovery—it’s about transformation,” said Dabora Choi, Senior Curator of the Salvator Mundi Museum of Art. “When we restore a masterpiece, we stitch beauty back into history. When we rescue a dog, we return beauty to everyday life—and reflect the best of our humanity.”
The Art of Rescue: Badass Bash 2025 is Badass Animal Rescue’s 9th annual fundraising gala: an evening of celebration, storytelling, and community built around one mission: to save more at-risk dogs and give them the futures they deserve.
This year’s Bash took place on Thursday, October 2nd, 2025 at the iconic Prospect Park Boathouse in Brooklyn. The event brought together adopters, fosters, donors, and dog lovers for a night of specialty cocktails, delicious bites, a curated raffle and auction, and heartfelt moments that reflected the impact of rescue.
